If you are from Texas, then you already know that this is the best place in the United States.
If you never left Texas, then you already know that this is the best place in the world!
Perhaps you are someone from out-of-state like myself. Now you may need some insight on why Texas is such an amazing place to elope. When I first thought of living in Texas, my initial reaction was that it was going to be hot. I was right. I lived at the tip of Texas - South Padre Island. The island was a nice little getaway for couples to elope on the beach. The Gulf of Mexico was a sight to see at sunrise. The bay (pictured below) was something special that could be seen every day of the week from anywhere on the island. Then we had 22 miles of sand dunes and beach with no development you could drive on if the tide allowed it. That was peaceful! At times South Padre Island could be a small nice slice of heaven.
Then I moved to New Braunfels, a city in Texas Hill Country.
A beautiful city between Austin and San Antonio.
Here are a few ideas...
HIKING + SUNSET
The time of year can play a role in what your wedding story looks like. Do you enjoy hiking and stunning views? One of the places we experienced (so far) while living in Texas has been Enchanted Rock State Park in the beautiful little town of Fredericksburg. A 360-degree summit view at the top of the 1800-foot tall, pink granite rock was the gift at the end of the trail.
The summit hike is 45 minutes. With camping at the base of the rock, this park is excellent for stargazing the Milky Way. While the summit is the main attraction, the Enchanted Rock State Park base trail that goes around the rock offers over 4 hours of hiking with tons of wilderness, unique views, and a lake. You can easily spend a weekend here just exploring.
Maybe you don't want a long hike?
Maybe a quick hike with a fantastic view? Mount Bonnell is a great location for something local to Austin. Since it is a popular site, there most likely will be a ton of people also enjoying the evening with you at the same time.
SUNRISE + NATURE + WILDERNESS
Do you enjoy morning walks at sunrise more than walks in the evening when the rest of the world is awake? Do you prefer solitude? Maybe you just like the peacefulness of the sounds of nature in the early morning?
Turn a night or weekend into a more relaxing adventure...
ADVENTURE + RELAX + SPA
This engagement session adventure began at the Hyatt Regency Texas Hill Country.
ADVENTURE + CREEK + FIELD + SUNSET
This engagement session ended at sunset by the creek at Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne, a small city located about an hour away from New Braunfels.
FAMILY + FRIENDS + B&B
Finally, Texas Hill Country offers many fun & unique backdrops, including cliff edges, river mouths, bluebonnet fields, waterfalls, & a forest of 100-year old oak trees. Gruene B&B is the venue featured below. These little venues are perfect for micro weddings or elopements. A nice little getaway cabin for friends and family.
ADVENTURE + SUNSET + LAKE
Here is an area that has adventure written all over it. Say your vows in a forest of oak trees as the sun begins to go down. Then venture down to the water for your wedding photos. Maybe you want to say your vows as the sun sets into the water from Heaven's Nook?
Heaven's Nook.
Mountains aren't your thing? What about rivers? Wet creeks? Texas has all types of rivers and waterfalls to enjoy a quick ceremony in or in front of. Afterward, you can hang out there and enjoy the water for the day. Here are a couple spots along the river you can elope in or in front of. Let's just take a walk around and when you find a spot you like, we will make it happen.
If you made it this far, what are your thoughts at this very moment?
Could Texas be the place for an adventure? A place to elope? What you observed above is what we have put together so far for this area. We still have autumn and wildflower seasons to capture with our lens. Plan your beautiful wedding memories around the beauty of nature. Picture the fall colors, waterfalls, and sunsets mixed together with a splash of love.
It comes down to this.
